Sonya Thompson

Sonya Thompson is a dedicated educator and humanitarian who has also served in ministry over thirty years. From the tender age of thirteen, Sonya began her work in ministry teaching Sunday school alongside her mother at the Religious Education Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She continued teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school, and children’s church at various locations when she became an adult.

Sonya is an alumnus of the University of Georgia and has been an Early Intervention Specialist (EIS) with the Georgia Parent Infant Network of Educational Services (GA PINES) for 30 years. As an EIS, she provides early intervention services for parents who have infants with vision and hearing impairments. She also teaches students with special needs in the DeKalb County School System. Sonya was commissioned into the United States Army Reserves and proudly served her country as a medical service officer with the 382nd Field Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, for six years.

Sonya is an author of two books, Chicago: A Journey Through Life, an inspirational collection of short stories based on personal experiences. She hopes that her book will not only provide heartwarming stories for her readers to enjoy, but that it will also serve as spiritual inspiration as readers see how God works in her life in every page. Her latest release, Rubi’s Best Friend, is warm-hearted children’s story about a seven-year-old American girl living in a foreign country who forges an inseparable friendship with a native German boy.
